THE LEE STRASBERG METHOD ACTING WORKSHOP

In this two-week Method Acting workshop, class participants will gain firsthand exposure to Lee Strasberg’s world renowned acting technique and learn to find truth and authenticity in expression. Taught by LSTFI Method Acting instructor Dig Wayne, the workshop will provide students with foundational Method Acting training with additional classes in Character Work and Acting on Camera, allowing students to understand and apply the techniques they are learning. The workshop will culminate in a two-day Master Class with David Lee Strasberg, open to the public.
WORKSHOP DETAILS
WEEK 1: July 15-19
Method Acting with Dig Wayne
Day 1 and 2
The first part of each Method Acting class begins with Lee Strasberg’s relaxation technique and then moves to his sequence of sensory exercises which train the actor’s concentration, ability to respond to imaginary objects, and organic expression. The second part of the Method Acting class is devoted to improvisation, scene work, and monologues where students applied what they have learned in the exercise work to fulfil the demands of a play and the creation of a role.
Character Work with Dig Wayne
Day 3, 4 and 5
This class guides the students as they gain a deeper grasp of the complexities of a character by examining the dramatic elements of the material. The goal is to move beyond conventional choices and use Method Acting techniques to develop a more artistic and authentic characterization of the scenes.
This class included script analysis, rehearsal procedures, and improvisation. Course material focused on contemporary plays, film, and television.

WEEK 2: July 22-26
Method Acting and Camera Work with Dig Wayne
The second week will focus mostly on camera work. Acting for Film and TV will provide students with the required skills, fundamentals and experience that an actor needs in order to successfully perform in front of a camera. We will explore all facets of on-camera acting, and every exercise and scene will be shot in front of the camera, to help enable the student to become comfortable and confident.
WEEK 2: July 27
MASTER CLASS With David Strasberg
The actors will have the rare opportunity to get first-hand knowledge from David Lee Strasberg, son of Lee Strasberg. David will work with the them on the scenes on which they have been working on for the past two weeks and on some of the more in-depth exercises his father developed like Emotional Memory.
WEEK 2: July 28
Open MASTER CLASS With David Strasberg
The workshop will culminate with an open to the public Master Class with David Strasberg during which 4 of the scenes will be workshoped with David in front of an audience.
Class size is limited to 16 students
The Scholarship
The instructors and the producer will determine if an actor that completes the workshop is awarded a 1-year full-time tuition scholarship (currently valued at $21,510 USD as of January 31, 2023.)
Award will be based on merit, skill, and availability.
The scholarship can only be redeemed at LSTFI Los Angeles.
The Instructors
DIG WAYNE
Dig is an alumnus of the now-defunct Lee Strasberg Studio in London from the late 80s. Over the years, Dig has worked as an actor in film, television, and theatre. His professional career started in New York City as a singer-songwriter. Dig moved to London in 1982 where he studied Method Acting beginning in 1987. He was cast in the lead role in the musical Five Guy’s Named Moe in 1990, which ran for 5 years in London’s West End and won an Oliver Award in 1991. After moving to Los Angeles in 1995, Dig became a life member of The Actors Studio. Dig won an NAACP theatre award for Best Supporting Male Actor in August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Fences, playing the role of Gabriel. He was also nominated for an Ovation for the same role. Dig is also a published poet and photographer. He began teaching at LSTFI in 2008.
DAVID LEE STRASBERG
David Lee Strasberg spent his childhood at the Actors Studio in New York where his father, Lee, was Artistic Director from 1949-1982, and at The Lee Strasberg Institutes in New York and West Hollywood, which his father and mother co-founded. He sat in on many of his father’s classes in close proximity to many of the most famous actors of our time.
In 1999, he became the Creative Director and CEO of the Strasberg Institutes. Since then, he has produced dozens of plays and short films featuring professionals and students alike. David teaches classes and seminars at both the West Hollywood and New York schools, while mentoring students on their craft and their careers. He also holds acting seminars to promote his father’s work in the United States and around the world.
